Lab Calendar 2024

Professional Development is one of the most inspiring things we can give others and ourselves. We connect with ideas. We meet people. We interact with parts of our being that are just waiting for some motion...or maybe emotion. The Outward Bound Professional Learning Lab is offering a number of events this year for you or your staff to take part in.


Below is the calendar through the Fall of 2024. The registration button follows.


In the interest of streamlining, we also included some preliminary information for the 2024 Lab Retreat happening in November. You will notice that the dates are not yet confirmed, but it will certainly land within one of our two options and be the entire week.  At the bottom, you'll see the Tri-Annual Community Updates. See information below.

If you would like to sign someone up for any of these offerings, click on this button:



You will be whisked away to a Google form, where you will be asked to sign each person up individually. This means you quickly fill out the form for each participant. It's so easy.



Domains of Thriving Coaching Training

We have changed this training slightly from 2023 based on our repeated experience. The content will largely be the same but delivered slightly differently. This training is best suited for staff who have at least some OB experience and who want to understand better how to coach those they supervise, their peers, or even themselves. The training is two consecutive days running roughly for six hours each day with some breaks.



Coaching Refresher

This refresher is one day for six hours. It covers a lot of core concepts form the coaching training and is a little more conversational and intended to really maximize the peer-to-peer learning element. There's also time to discuss challenges with coaching observations. Consistently this is one of the funnest virtual engagements. We'd love to see you there.



Certified Observer Trainings

This is a fantastic professional development opportunity for individuals and a great way for schools to build capacity for further training on OB best practices. How DO we help our students self-regulate? What DOES reflection work at Outward Bound? The February training is already enrolled. The September training is accepting enrollments through the "Register" button above. Both of these will be completed virtually.



Lab Retreat 2024

In 2023 we enjoyed a chilly few days warming our hearts in the Northwoods of Maine at the HIOBS base in Newry. This year we have yet to decide where we'll head. If you have recommendations, please let us know. Stay tuned for more information about the 2024 Lab Retreat.


We are aiming to grow the size of this gathering. Exact numbers are not decided yet; nor is the content. Just keep it on your radar that is will happen in November during one of the weeks noted.


Tri-Annual Community Updates

These three updates are meant to inform the Outward Bound community on the work of Lab groups and OBUSA Pathway1 projects from the strategic plan. Members of all related groups are encourage to attend, as well as any interested staff. These are not meant to be updates for field staff. That would be accomplished in a different manner.
